The CELQ Label of Quality
CELQ - Certified European Laminate Quality is the name of a European label of quality for laminate flooring. At the start of 2005, CELQ replaced the RAL quality sign for laminate flooring, which had been valid in the German market only. Laminate flooring which carries the CELQ label meets very stringent quality requirements, and it is one of the leading products on the market. All laminate flooring that bears the CELQ label has been subjected to rigorous testing by independent institutes. Laminate flooring is checked for properties such as color fastness, abrasion resistance, scratch resistance, impact resistance, stain resistance, reaction to burning cigarettes and much more.
To obtain the CELQ label of quality, a manufacturer of laminate flooring must be a member of CELQ Certified European Laminate Quality e.V. which is located in Bielefeld, Germany. To be eligible for product testing, the manufacturer must sign a so-called monitoring agreement with an accredited test institute. This agreement covers initial tests and testing which is repeated at regular intervals. If the test institute identifies deficiencies during the course of repetitive testing, the CELQ label can be withdrawn. Also, the producer has an obligation to test its products on an ongoing basis.
